Canada Iceland Foundation has been in existence for over 50 years. It is a registered charity and over the years has received gifts from individuals and estates.
The Foundation grants several scholarships every year. Most of the scholarships are awarded on the basis of application from the individual and those scholarships are advertised on this website, in Lögberg-Heimskringla and elsewhere. As well as granting scholarships, the Foundation has in each year, made grants to the young people attending the Snorri Program in Iceland. The Foundation has over the years also made grants to various cultural activities.
In addition to the many scholarships available to students by application, there are two that are awarded to deserving individuals pursuing continuing education without application.
The Margrét Bjarnason Scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the graduating class in each of the three secondary schools within the Evergreen School Division; Arborg, Gimli and Riverton, Manitoba. The recipients of these scholarships are chosen by each of the high schools and are awarded at graduation in June.
These scholarships will be awarded annually as funds permit. Canadian applicants are required to fill out a general application. An application will be considered a request for consideration for any scholarship offered by Canada Iceland Foundation.
Application for scholarships administered by the Canada Iceland Foundation Inc. need to be submitted by 30th September of each academic year. Applicants should submit a general request, allowing the committee to consider each submission for any Foundation scholarship which is applicable. Priority may be given to first time applicants.
